Formentera is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt islands in Europe, and in the world. The most popular location for charter clients is Illetes, the closest point from Formentera to Ibiza. While Illetes is certainly stunning and beautiful, the real Formentera experience is to charter a boat in Ibiza and visit some of the other beaches on the island, such as Cala Saona, Es Caló and Es Migjorn to name a few.
Charter a boat in Ibiza to visit Formentera, it will be a truly unforgettable experience, consider planning a two day trip around the island, stopping at the beaches in an out of the ordinary way, an experience most people have never heard of.
Why limit yourself to 2 days? If you have the time, there are not enough, easily the beaches and restaurants in Formentera will keep you busy for a week or 2 with a charter boat.
Espalmador
- Distance from Ibiza Harbour: 25 minutes by motor boat
Clients often describe this amazing little island as "The Caribbean, but better! "after a day of yacht charter in Ibiza. The crystal clear waters and perfect white sandy beaches attract yacht owners from all over the world and make it the perfect place to visit when chartering a boat in Ibiza.
Espalmador is a small island to the north of Formentera. The two islands are connected by a sand bar and it is indeed possible to walk across the deep water from one island to the other, although it is not recommended due to the strong currents. The gap between the islands which is known as "Es Pas des Trucadors" is about 200 metres in diameter and is too shallow for boats to pass through.
Possibly the most beautiful island in the Mediterranean, a stop at Espalmador is highly recommended. The island is deserted, there are no bars or restaurants, so if you plan to spend the whole day here after chartering a boat in Ibiza, come prepared with food and drinks (or let us take care of it). The only way to get to this magical island is by private boat.
Like many beaches on Ibiza, Espalmador attracts nudists, so don't be alarmed if you see one from the boat!
Espalmador is famous for its mud baths and it is not uncommon to see people strolling along the beaches with nothing but a fine splash of the famous mud which is said to be very good for the skin. The idea is to leave the mud on for as long as you can stand and then go for a swim in the sea to wash it off before returning to your charter boat. These mud baths are found by following a small path through the sand dunes in the centre of the island.
The captain is a connoisseur of it and will not hesitate to take you there for a dip in these beautiful, crystal clear, clean and calm waters.
It is about 20-25 minutes from the port of Ibiza by motor boat.

Located in the heart of the most famous beach of Formentera (certainly one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean), you will recognise from afar the restaurant “JUAN Y ANDREA”, the only one with palm trees on the beach. Incomparable view, excellent sea cuisine, fish seafood, rice dishes, etc…, on the terrace or directly on the sand under the shade of the awnings. Run with love and dedication by the same family for more than 25 years, this will be an unforgettable experience.
Juan and Andrea’s specialities have all the flavour of the sea. The restaurant’s tables are set on the sand, which is kept cool by the shade of the terrace, so the fish tastes no better.
If you feel like it, start with some clams a la marinera, grilled sardines, fresh prawns from Formentera or any of their salads. For the main course you can opt for a lobster or lobster with garlic, grilled lobster, lobster paella, fish paella, grilled fresh fish or sea bream, among other delicacies. If you prefer meat, you can have a beef sirloin or lamb chops. For dessert, there is, for example, a juicy strawberry tart. The wine list specialises in whites, cavas and champagne.
When you anchor your rented boat in Ibiza, the zodiac service will take you to the restaurant.

Probably the most emblematic restaurant on the island of Formentera. An old mill belonging to the old salt industry of Formentera and exquisitely refurbished to offer in a privileged setting a menu of the best typical dishes of Formentera and Mediterranean cuisine always accompanied by a wide range of quality wines.
With unique views of Illetas beach on one side and the port of La Savina on the other,
Es Molí de Sal has the perfect atmosphere and landscapes to let yourself be carried away by the beauty of the sea during the day, being also a privileged place to enjoy the best sunsets of Formentera with the island of Es Vedrà cutting the horizon in the background.
Perched on the rocks overlooking the turquoise waters, it has the perfect position to spy on all the other charter boats in Ibiza and private boats at anchor. The restaurant has its own small jetty for the zodiac to pick you up from your charter boat.

The restaurant is hidden in the sand dunes behind the beach, but from the deck of your charter boat, you can see a giant “B” on the roof of the beach bar. All the tables are outside, on the sand, but protected from the powerful rays of the sun by a very high roof made of old wood, covered with palm leaves.
You will be able to taste all kinds of exquisite local fish, delicious rice dishes… they specialise in Mediterranean and Basque cuisine.
But around 5pm is when Beso Beach really starts to get exciting. The tables give way to a dance floor and the DJ gets on his feet to get everyone on their feet. People start pouring in from their Ibiza charter boats and within a couple of hours the place is packed with beautiful people dancing. Mojito in hand, they watch the sun set over the beautiful Mediterranean Sea.
An afternoon at Beso Beach will probably be your favourite experience.
Cala Saona
Cala Saona is a beautiful small beach located on the west coast of Formentera. It is located inside a horseshoe-shaped bay and is surrounded by red rock cliffs.
The water is turquoise and the sandy bottom can be seen when you anchor your rented boat in Ibiza. Drop anchor and you will be surrounded by numerous fish in no time at all. The area is busy with many boats, so it is advisable to anchor close to the red earth cliffs, which you can access by swimming. A sea of peace and tranquillity will undoubtedly fill your breath.
Es Migjorn
Probably the most natural and wildest beach of Formentera. It is located completely in the south and is the largest beach of Formentera, about 6 km long. This natural, undeveloped paradise is a real must-see. It is certainly the most private place to anchor your charter boat in Ibiza as you will see very few boats.
The beach is made up of long virgin stretches of white sand interspersed with rocky areas. The final stretch of the beach is more lively with a couple of Spanish style beach bars, sun loungers and even windsurfing and pedal boat hire. These modest little bars serve great Spanish classics such as paella at much more reasonable prices.
The water is out of this world and the white sand is truly picture postcard. If you have the time to make the trip with your boat rental in Ibiza, at the end of the beach you will find some totally unspoilt, rocky areas with crystal clear water, you will love to take a dip and disconnect from the world.
Es Calo
Es Calo is a small fishing village located at the beginning of the ascent to La Mola. This stretch of coastline is made up of a series of consecutive coves, characterised by their small size, small rocky outcrops, a slope of fine white sand with some rocks, a dune system and vegetation that supports it (pines, junipers and scrubland), extending to the rear, a very gentle slope, crystal clear water and a rocky bottom with sandy areas.
Some time ago es Caló-ses Platgetes was the second natural harbour of Formentera and the communication route to the outside of the neighbouring peninsula of La Mola. At a distance of 150m you can anchor your rented boat in Ibiza and swim to the coast surrounded by small fish.
Es Pujols
This U-shaped sea inlet is characterised by having the largest tourist and leisure offer in Formentera. Here you will find several hotels and flat blocks, as well as hippy bars and clubs. As for leisure activities, there is a wide range of water sports on offer: windsurfing, paddle surfing and surfing...
A large number of small restaurants offer an extensive menu to suit all tastes. It is located on an ideal beach to visit with the family, with a rented boat in Ibiza.
The beach is still very unspoilt and retains much of its natural beauty. There are a couple of interesting rocky islands to be seen, and children and adults alike will be delighted to snorkel.
The best marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are in the south-eastern area of Punta Prima, about two hectometres from the shore, on a sandy bottom.
